Learning Resource Center

The Learning Resource Center (“LRC”) at St. Croix is designed to better meet the learning needs of students and their families who desire a Christian education at St. Croix. With the increasing diversity of learning needs of our present student body, as well as looking towards our future, the LRC provides much needed support for families and teachers, aiding students with learning needs to experience success at St. Croix.

Dr. Carrie Pfeifer, Ph.D, serves as St. Croix’s Learning Coordinator. Dr. Pfeifer works with Principal Gibson, the guidance department, and class advisors to identify students who need the support of this program. Once potential students have been identified, Mrs. Pfeifer will meet with the families to discuss their student’s specific needs. “Staffings” for these students will occur with teachers and families prior to the beginning of the school year so that success can begin from day one!

If you have a student who might benefit from this program, or have questions about what St. Croix offers, Dr. Pfeifer welcomes the opportunity to talk with you. You can contact her at cpfeifer@StCroixSchools.org or call 651-455-1521, ext. 117.

ACT and SAT Prep Classes

St. Croix Lutheran 6-12 offers test preparation classes for students taking the SAT, ACT, and TOEFL. The TOEFL is a test for English proficiency and is required for all international students wishing to matriculate to post-secondary education in the United States. International students generally begin taking the TOEFL for college admissions during their junior year. The SAT and ACT are college entrance exams which typically students begin taking during the 2nd semester of their junior year.

The ACT is generally the test of choice for students wishing to matriculate to schools in the Midwest. The SAT is generally the test of choice for students wishing to matriculate to schools on the East or West Coasts. However, either the SAT or the ACT is accepted at most universities and colleges. The structures of the ACT and SAT are different. Since the SAT test is the test most often taken by our international students, the structure of the SAT preparatory class is with a focus on the English skills needed for taking the test.

If you have further questions about the tests or the test preparation classes, contact Dr. Carrie Pfeifer via email.

Registration forms for the preparatory classes are available in the school office and as PDFs below. The dates for the upcoming classes are as follows:

SAT: Tuesdays and Thursdays 3-5, February 7 to March 6 (Registration deadline January 27th)

TOEFL: Tuesdays and Thursdays 3-5, March 27 to April 12 (Registration deadline March 9th)
